When children learn to love reading, it is natural for many to want to begin writing. In an effort to encourage creative writing, Libros para Todos began to offer creative writing workshops for children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. The workshops are free to attend and open to children from all participating communities, but the size of the groups is limited to a maximum of 20 children per workshop so that the group can easily develop friendship and trust, and also so workshop leaders can work closely with each child.
Our first workshop for young writers took place in February of 2017 and was a great success. In July of 2017, Libros organized a five day creative writing and art camp for 20 youths from marginalized communities. This intensive summer course was such a lot of fun for all involved and it was agreed that a summer writing course would become an annual event. In July of 2018, in coalition with the Sala Literaria and the Guanajuato International Film Festival, Libros para Todos organized a 6 day summer camp for 20 children that covered animation, and using creative writing and art as a way to express one’s unique identity.
